Indigenous Resources

The Town of Ajax and Ajax Public Library encourages learning about Indigenous communities, culture, and heritage to promote understanding and remove barriers.

  • Visit: the Indigenous Community & Healing Garden at the Ajax Pickering Hospital.
  • Join: participate in Town of Ajax programs.
  • Learn: about Indigenous history and culture, and discover stories by and about Indigenous people.
  • Watch: a video created by a Durham College student, a "visual interpretation of my struggles growing up as a white Indigenous person in the suburbs. Feeling stuck between two worlds, floating in the twilight zone".
  • Watch: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, where you can join bestselling children’s authors and illustrators, Jay Odjick (illustrator of Blackflies & Bear for Breakfast, written by Robert Munsch) and Michael Hutchinson (author of the Mighty Muskrats Mystery series) for a special prerecorded library presentation. These videos were made in partnership with the Libraries of Durham and York Region.
